After about 12 hours of wrestling at the Berry Center in Cypress on Friday during Day 1 at the UIL State Championships 12 of 21 KISD wrestlers are still in the tournament with five of them in the championship semifinals.
With 10 mats in use at one time, the action was non-stop all day Friday, and a full, appreciative crowd continuously cheered on the competitors.
KISD’s contingent truly demonstrated their toughness and competitive edge against the state’s top wrestlers.

The rest –– Ellison’s Ethyn Ramey, Shoemaker’s Aljohn Morales and Christian Kent-Easter, and Harker Heights’ Daniela Martinez, Karina Villa-Dickens, Pearl Casanova and Saniah Ebron –– will begin Day 2 in the third round of the consolation bracket with a chance to finish as high as third place.
