A talented and diligent group of graduating seniors were in for a welcoming surprise on the Friday before Spring Break.
The KISD Education Foundation and Alumni Association revealed 71 scholarships to the surprised students at KISD high schools and specialty campuses, with a combined total of $91,950.
The soon-to-be graduates submitted applications before being selected as scholarship recipients.
KISD Education Foundation and Alumni association representatives visited each school to join district and campus leaders to celebrate the success of the students while counselors gathered the unsuspecting students in the library, front office, or outside to reveal the surprise.
Students opened their envelopes to reveal the scholarships, some of which were gifted by alumni, ROTC, or local organizations. The atmosphere filled with the students’ excitement on what the continued journey of education had in store.
The formal award ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, March 30 at 6 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. The same event will honor this year’s KISD Distinguished Alumni.
