Imagine the number of meals served across 52 school cafeterias over the course of a school year.
Killeen ISD School Nutrition honored some of its top cafeterias Monday with visits, balloons and a big cake for the cafeteria staff members at six schools.
Those cafeterias won their fourth star, meaning four months of outstanding inspections based on customer service, quality food, appearance and other factors.
Nutrition staff visited the KISD Career Center, Pathways, Harker Heights High School, Rancier Middle School, Killeen Elementary School and Clifton Park Elementary School to praise the cafeteria staff members’ efforts.
Nutrition supervisors explained at each visit that earning four stars means the cafeteria staff members are consistently doing outstanding work to make sure they serve high-quality food and serve customers well.
Several principals made comments during the brief presentations, praising cafeteria staff members for serving students well with enthusiasm.
Principals also pointed out the importance of making sure students have plenty of nutritious food in order to do their best academically and socially.
Another group of school district cafeterias earned seven stars, meaning a sweep of all inspections for the school year.
Those top cafeterias with seven stars are Live Oak Ridge Middle School, Nolanville, Clarke, Clear Creek, Brookhaven, Trimmier, Fowler and Pat Carney elementary schools.
Earning six stars are Chaparral High School, Liberty Hill Middle School and Maxdale, Ira Cross, Hobby and Maude Moore Wood elementary schools.
Cafeterias earning five stars include Palo Alto and Nolan middle schools and Peebles, Reeces Creek, Timber Ridge and Alice Douse elementary schools.
The Stars of Excellence program, now in its second year, has built morale and excitement and that the number of cafeterias earning top marks is growing.
