Those caps and gowns are neatly pressed (maybe) and the bright lights are hung, and stage is set (almost).
High school graduation season is fast approaching.
Next week thousands of Killeen ISD seniors will step across the stage at the newly named Cadence Bank Center in Belton, receive congratulations from district and school leaders, then step into life after high school.
Early College High School seniors on Tuesday visited KISD elementary schools, parading through hallways as younger students and school staff members cheered them on.
Seniors available took four different bus routes to visit 15 schools.
At Clifton Park Elementary School, the final of four stops for one group, Early College senior Joseph Poynor said the younger students were vocally welcoming of the cap-and-gown-clad guests.
“It’s been interesting to see all the schools,” he said, noting that he didn’t attend elementary school in Killeen.
“All of them seem super excited to see us. It’s been great.”
“They have been loud, very hyped,” said Anastasia Garcia, who attended Fowler and Haynes elementary schools.
“They all high fived us and gave us handshakes. We just wanted to give some inspiration for the kids.”
Early College High School begins the actual KISD graduation parade with commencement at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.
On Friday, May 24, Chaparral High School graduates its second senior class in a ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. Ellison High School will follow with a 2 p.m. ceremony the same day.
The other three high schools host ceremonies on Saturday, May 25 with Shoemaker at 9 a.m., Harker Heights at 2 p.m. and Killeen High at 7 p.m.
Guests attending graduation ceremonies must have a ticket. Graduating seniors receive their ticket allotments this week.
Ceremonies will livestream on the district web site and broadcast live on Spectrum Cable Channel 17.
